| Physical and Chemical Properties | Lead iodide is a bright yellow heavy powder or hexagonal scale crystal, the molecular formula is PbI, no smell, high melting point and boiling point. At room temperature, a bright yellow odorless crystalline solid turned orange and red after heating. The solubility in water increases with increasing temperature. lead iodide is used as a precursor material for the fabrication of high-efficiency solar cells, and PbI2 can also be used as a high-energy photon detector for gamma rays and X-rays. Lead iodide has also been used as a pigment called yellow iodide, but has been eliminated due to toxicity and instability. |

| production method | dissolving 260g of analytically pure potassium iodide in 600mL of water and heating. 300g of analytically pure lead acetate trihydrate is dissolved in 600mL of water, and the solution is slowly added to the hot solution of potassium iodide under stirring. After washing 8~10 times with water pouring method, the resulting precipitate was filtered with Brinell funnel. Then spread the precipitate on waterproof paper, dry it at 80~90 ℃, and then grind it into fine powder in a ventilated place. The yield is 365g, and the yield is close to 100%. The resulting lead iodide precipitate can be recrystallized in glacial acetic acid to form lead iodide crystals. |
